Biography

I’m an assistant professor in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at University College London’s School of Management, on leave in 2022. I received a PhD in Organizational Behavior and Sociology jointly from Harvard University and Harvard Business School in 2013.

My research focuses on designing organisations so they are innovative and resilient under true uncertainty. My first book is The Uncertainty Mindset: Innovation Insights from the Frontiers of Food (Columbia University Press, 2020).

I advise businesses and non-profits as a consultant and board member. I am currently on the executive board of Rethink Food (a New York City-based organization developing innovative ways to reduce food waste and inequity), an advisor to the Wellcome Collection in London, and on the advisory boards of two stealth-mode startups.

Previously, I worked at Google in California on Earth, Maps, Ads, and special projects including structured data infrastructure and lunar exploration. I have also worked with the Anderson Ranch Art Foundation, AVA, the Área de Conservación Guanacaste, Braneframe, the Encyclopedia of Life, the E. O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation, the Fat Duck group of restaurants, Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo, the Guanacaste Dry Forest Conservation Fund, Hewlett-Packard, the Institute for Data-driven Design, the MAD Foundation, Postcard, Second Home, the Singapore Management University, the Region of Skåne in Sweden, and Subculture.
